ROUND ROCK, Texas – Fazzone Construction Co., Inc. recently completed renovations at the City of Round Rock Business Center Complex.

Round Rock developed the Southwest Downtown Plan in 2005 to accommodate growth while revitalizing and enhancing the area and highlighting the small-town feel and historic character. Officials also wanted to encourage quality development of government and economic activities.

Phase 1 of the $6 million renovation budget to the City of Round Rock Business Center Complex includes the remodel of the city's three-story office building located at 221 East Main Street, which currently houses Round Rock's City Hall and remodeling the adjacent two-story office building located at 231 East Main Street. Fazzone Construction completed the renovations for the entire two-story building at a cost of $1.5 million. Initial tenants for this building are the City of Round Rock finance and human resource departments. The facility is also the new home of the Round Rock visitors bureau, and the Round Rock Area Arts Council, which is a non-profit organization dedicated to increasing awareness of art and cultural activities offered in the greater Round Rock area.
“Fazzone Construction, the architectural team of Keith Hickman and Lacey Hickman Lewis, the City of Round Rock’s Larry Madison and Pete Dominguez, and the consulting engineers, Energy Systems Associates Inc., all collaborated to make the renovations to the Round Rock Business Center Complex a great success,” said Project Manager Chris Blades, Fazzone Construction.

K. A. Hickman Architects and Interior Designers teamed with the City of Round Rock to provide interior space planning, remodeling, and exterior renovations.

“Fazzone Construction executed the plan with very little complications and adjustments,” Blades said. “As with many renovations, we came upon a number of unforeseen issues but they never truly seem to be a challenge because of the ease and enjoyable working relationship with Larry and his team at the City of Round Rock and the architectural team.”

The buildings are designed as a cohesive facility to house the City’s business and administrative offices. The Complex utilizes modular office systems while incorporating secure meeting areas and conference rooms. The facility includes numerous features installed by Fazzone Construction including a high-end wood veneer to the interior corridors, fully automated climate control systems allowing for offsite monitoring, and fully automated lighting and controls, including ‘hands-free’ restrooms. The project also included the construction of a second floor pedestrian walkway to physically bridge the two buildings together.

“The Round Rock Business Center Complex has the unique factor of bringing together a modern renovation with the historic small-town character of Main Street,” Blades said.

He added that the team worked well together to complete the renovations successfully and ahead of schedule, even after a significant increase in occupied space was added to the scope of work. The project was completed in 240 days. The team included Senior Project Manager Bob Evans; Project Manager Chris Blades; Superintendent Miguel Paz; Project Administrator Sarah Honza and K. A. Hickman Architects and Interior Designers.

Fazzone Construction Co., Inc was founded by Domenico Fazzone, who emigrated from Italy in 1954. He started the company in upstate New York in 1957 and relocated the company to Austin in 1977. The company is still in the family. Joseph Fazzone is the second generation to lead the company. He has been the president since 1998.

Fazzone Construction Co., Inc. has continued to expand with offices in both Austin and San Antonio and provides general contracting and specialized site construction services. –km
