Cooling the city
LAMARQUE, Texas – Owner Troy Alexander remembers sweeping at Alex’s Air Conditioning Inc. as a kid.
“My dad, Alex, founded the company in LaMarque in 1969,” Alexander said. “Like many contractors, he started out of his garage and eventually opened an office.
“Looking back, the company was my babysitter when I was growing up. When my classmates were out getting in trouble in the summers and school holidays, I came here to work.”
Alexander says he rode with several of the senior technicians, that have since retired, and learned about air conditioning and heating installation and service.
“From that point on, I learned how to run the business,” he said. “My dad retired about four years ago. He now spends his time on a small piece of heaven down in South Texas. Raising cattle, maintaining the property and hunting keeps him busy.
“In my free time, I enjoy doing anything outdoors. I am looking forward to the spring turkey season. I am currently the president of the National Wild Turkey Federation (NWTF) Gulf Coast Chapter.”
Every once in a while, the folks at the company participate in a seafood grill-off event. They make gumbo, shrimp and crab dishes, he said.
Val Roccaforte is the dispatcher, Troy Crowston manages the installation crews in the field and Jim Gentry is responsible for sales.
“My wife, Kathy, takes care of the accounting and has worked with us for four years. She enjoys shopping and spending time with her friends on the side.”
