SAN ANTONIO – Bartek Construction is going to the next level in management, according to founder Larry Bartek.
“I am trying to push away from the table a little bit,” he said. ”I am semi-retiring. My son, Casey, is taking over the operation and my daughter, Codi, is helping with some of the advertising and promoting.”
Larry started out in the utility construction industry as a partner in J&G Services. “During the harsh years of the 80’s we liquidated J&G and I started up Bartek Construction in 1987, but on a smaller scale.
“Much of my success has been due to the fact that I have many experienced and loyal employees who have been with me since the ‘70s, one of which is my superintendent, Roy Salinas, who started with me in 1975. We now employ 38 people.
“Casey, now the operations manager, has worked with me since he was a child. He graduated with a business degree and worked for Pesado Construction Co. He has been with Bartek Construction for the past six years.”
Today Bartek Construction’s focus includes a wide range of services: underground utility construction and reconstruction; directional boring; and subsurface utility engineering.
“We also do rural ranch work, such as laying water lines, doing wildlife habitat improvements, such as food plots.
“I live on a farm, as do Casey and Codi. We enjoy managing and working our cattle operations as a family. In addition to the cow/calf herd I have in Atascosa County, I also have a commercial herd on a ranch that I lease in Webb County.
“Family gatherings usually consist of our four children, Brandon, Monte, Casey and Codi, and nine grandchildren. We enjoy the outdoors, while hunting, fishing, boating and skiing together.”
