ADDISON, TX – Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport has been under continuous construction of one kind or another since the ground breaking in 1968. As the eighth busiest airport in the world, transporting over 56 million passengers yearly, construction projects have become a way of life for the facility and many contractors.

LEMCO Construction Services, L.P. is one of those contractors, and they have provided construction services to the airport on a continual basis since the company’s beginnings in 2003.

 LEMCO currently has four projects under construction at the Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport and all are a part of the airport’s eight-year Terminal Development Program to renovate the four original terminals.

Terminals A and C Re-gating Concrete;
Concrete foundations/supports for new jet bridges being installed and miscellaneous concrete work at 46 gates.

Terminals A and C Re-gating, Mechanical and Plumbing;
Re-piping the glycol systems and miscellaneous mechanical systems upgrades for the jet bridges at 46 gates.

Terminal A Temporary Finishes;
Complete renovation of building interiors for gates in a portion of Terminal A.

New Restrooms at Terminal E, Gate 5;
Construction of new landside     men’s and women’s restrooms, an assisted care toilet room and a janitor room at Terminal E.

The renovation provides facelifts for passenger areas including ticketing, security and concessions and covers the replacement of terminal systems such as electrical, plumbing, heating and cooling, security, conveyance and telecommunications.

Materials used in all projects were varied and include structural concrete, miscellaneous structural steel, mechanical and piping materials, plumbing materials and special and unique high-end wall, ceiling and floor interior finishes.

The project challenges are many and are inherent to aviation projects in today’s marketplace.  They include enhanced security, logistics, and coordination with airport     and tenant operations.  The construction team had to be flexible and able to respond quickly to a very dynamic schedule of airport operations and, in most cases, coordinated multiple crews working 24/7 to accomplish this.

Since this is an aviation project, the complexity of working around active gates and the general public including security and safety are top priorities. That makes this a very unique working environment.  Being part of a larger program also includes ongoing coordination with other construction activities as well as airport ancillary services.

LEMCO credits their attention to detail and customer service to creating the long standing relationships with all of the various departments at the airport and this has lead to the continued excellent working conditions during this construction.

Together the four projects have an approximate contract value of $5,500,000.00.  All four were started in the third and fourth quarters of 2010 and are scheduled for completion throughout 2011.

 Project management staff for LEMCO handling these projects is: Travis Bradley-Senior Project Manager; Ryan Lack-Project Manager;  Dewayne Taylor- General Superintendent; Norm Crawford-Senior Superintendent; Aaron Davenport-Superintendent; Michael Hartman-Superintendent; Josh Taylor-Field Engineer.

Design firms included Jacobs Engineering Group, CAGE Inc. and URS Corporation Inc

LEMCO Construction Services L.P. was founded in 2003 by Judy Lembke, President & CEO.  Headquartered in Addison, Texas, the company has 22 full-time and several part-time employees specializing in aviation, education and criminal justice projects across the entire state of Texas.   –bd

Airports are the face of the country because this is the first place that a tourist lands to.
