BOERNE, TX – The City of Boerne has a new fire station located at 726 N. Main in Boerne.

Michael Cotugno, president, MJC & Associates, said the $2,050,000 project took 16 months to complete. The fire station had three building components: a new 6,800-sf addition to an existing facility, an 11,200-sf apparatus bay, and renovations to the administrative offices.

The new addition consisted of work, storage and dorm rooms, kitchen dining areas, bathrooms and a physical health and training room.

Byron Sachs and Charlie Gonzales, MJC & Associates, served as the project manager and superintendent, respectively.

Primary materials used in the construction of the fire station included a steel frame structure setting on a concrete slab. Walls were metal stud framed with drywall sheathing and an exterior plaster and masonry veneer finish. The roof was standing seam metal roofing. The interior was drywall with painted finish acoustical ceiling along with carpet and ceramic tile flooring.

While there were few challenges, Cotugno commented the firefighters occupied the building during the entire project. “Since firefighting efforts would continue during construction, we needed to provide continuous access to the equipment and a clear pathway to the street,” he said.

Cotugno feels the new fire station complements the surrounding area and existing facilities. The addition blended well with the existing building and the revisions to the site pulled everything together to create a well-functioning facility. The new fire station blends nicely with the residential area located nearby.

Cotugno was very pleased at the exceptional working relationship they had with the owner. He said, “The Fire Chief and crew assisted us in every way possible and were very excited about the changes to their facility.

“Having the end users on site for the duration of the project was great. Any areas of concern either party had were able to be worked out immediately.”

MJC & Associates is a general contractor for both public and private customers.  –dn
