Lighting the way in Austin
AUSTIN – Elite Lighting Designs, a San Antonio based company, has opened an office in Austin to serve the commercial and residential markets.
Steve Shepard has joined the company and will be managing the expansion into Austin.
“Steve comes with a lot of experience in the business and was one of the first in San Antonio to use solar,” explained Shawn George, owner of the company.
“Austin is a very green/energy efficient city and we are getting the best of both worlds having someone like Steve who has such a vast knowledge of solar and energy savings techniques with what we are doing in our new lighting industry with the LEDs. It’s really a great win-win because we are bringing in the best into the Austin market.”
“I do want to put the emphasis on our green initiative and try to relate to the Austin market on a green level,” stated Shepard. The city is acutely concerned with environmental issues. We are a member of the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) and are going to be very active in that group.”
The company started out primarily in the design and installation of home lighting systems but about eight years ago added the commercial segment of the business for home developers and general contactors.
“With new subdivision popping up left and right we became heavily involved in the housing industry with design and installation of infrastructure for the amenity centers and front gates. We quickly gained in he commercial side of the business,” stated George.
The company stayed primarily in the San Antonio market but has traveled all over Texas on large jobs including work done in Austin.
“We made the transition a year ago and decided we wanted to focus on another market as well as San Antonio. Looking at the close relationship, distance, and high demand from existing customers Austin made sense,” continued George.
According to George his industry has been hurt by the growth of franchise lighting design and installation companies and says many of these mom and pop operations have recently gone out of business.
“We are going into the Austin market to bring quality design, install and service for lighting back into that market.” –bd
