Painting the city
HOUSTON – Founder and president Sam Ramirez established The Zerimar Corp. in 2001 and says the company is celebrating its 10-year anniversary this year.
Ramirez began his career in 1979 and has construction experience as a painter, estimator, superintendent and an owner.
“At first, we provided mostly commercial painting services,” Ramirez said. “We kept growing through the years and now we are handling work for the Department of Homeland Security. In 2010, we expanded our services which includes the installation of wire mesh partition systems.”
Ramirez says he is a proud veteran who served in the United States Marine Corps in the late ‘70s.
“I use many things I learned in the Marine Corps for my business such as honesty, integrity and dependability,” he said.
“I think it is very important to properly coordinate the jobs. You can get more work completed with fewer men if you know what needs to be done and not do anything that you don’t have to do. You really have to work smart in this business.
“Another thing that has helped me along the way is doing a lot of networking. I was recently selected to a program called 10,000 Small Businesses by Goldman Sachs. The program has really propelled me and opened up my eyes on how to market myself and grow the business.”
Ramirez says the company currently employs eight people. His daughter, Kandice, is the office manager.
“Every now and then, I will take the guys to Waelder, TX,” he said. “We enjoy going fishing and spending time outdoors. I actually grew up in Waelder. It is about 100 miles from Houston.
“In addition, my hobby these days is playing golf. I am a member of a local golf league. We play in tournaments all over the United States. The previous tournament we played in was in California.”
Ramirez says his goal is for the company is to do more green painting applications and he would also like to hire a few more estimators in the near future.
The Zerimar Corp. is a full-service painting company in Houston. The company specializes in the repainting of existing commercial buildings and architectural painting of new construction, tenant improvements and renovations. –ab
