DALLAS – Some fifty years ago a determined young man named Pedro Aguirre launched his architectural firm. This venture was actually created in his mind as a young boy. From the rooftops of Texas, working with his father installing roofs and painting houses, he always knew he wanted to be an architect.

He had chosen Texas A&M University for his education and graduated with a degree in Bachelor of Architecture in 1956.

Through the years the company, now known as AGUIRRE RODEN, has continued to expand.

In the  ‘80s, engineering was added and the ‘90s brought facilities management, support services and construction.

“These were all customer driven additions of service,” said Peter Aguirre, senior vice president, Program Development.

“As we entered the telecommunication industries in the ‘90s on the design side, these companies were telling us we had to be a design builder if we were to complete and meet the market demands. Our customers have shaped us over the years.

“Aguirre Roden Building Systems was in created in 1993 with the addition of Gary Roden. He is responsible for growing the construction part of the company.”

The “Can-Do Spirit” that drove this expansion is ingrained as a company philosophy that visitors can plainly see, boldly presented on the walls of their Dallas office.

That attitude has helped bring in clients like North Texas Tollway Authority, DART, DFW Airport, Texas Instruments, Pepsico, Chase, CitiBank and many others over the years.

These days technology like Building Information Modeling (BIM) and design/build delivery method is becoming even more important for the continued growth of the firm.

“You are starting to see a lot of the larger projects done using that delivery method,” stated Aguirre.

“What we are doing is watching what happens to the engineering portion. We are starting to see a lot of design/build with mechanical contractors so MEP engineering is being reshaped; and, we have added Commissioning to our service offering.

“A lot of big entities are starting to go to more of a design/build type delivery method. Also, developers really respond well to what we are doing.”

When asked about the five-year goals of management, Peter Aguirre mentioned two, which are at the top of the list.

"We are committed to sustainability.
Most of our key team members are now LEED AP or LEED GA.

"We are focused on process efficiency so we can maximize value to our clients in all our service offerings."

In closing the two name partners reflect on the history of the company.

“For fifty years, Pedro Aguirre has guided this company with a spirit of entrepreneurialism, client service, and community involvement,” said Roden.

“These guiding principles have served as the foundation to allow us to grow in both volume and services provided to our client base.”

“I started the firm in 1960 and I have been blessed with a wonderful career, one day at a time,” said Pedro Aguirrre.

“I am pleased to report that after only 50 years, we look like an overnight success.”

Aguirre Roden, with 85 employees, is based in Dallas and has an additional office location in Austin. At present the majority of work done by the company is in the Texas market.  –bd
