A greener way
HOUSTON – The Green Painter, a sister store of New Living, recently opened for business in the Rice Village area. Monte Large is one of the partners at the company.
“We have operated for a few months now,” Large said. “We have seen several more painting contractors come into the store lately. In addition, our sales have steadily increased in a short period of time.
“In September, we held a full-day course to teach painters and contractors about harmful chemicals in traditional paints, how to create safe working conditions for painters and clients and how to make their businesses more sustainable.”
Additional partners at the company are Lewis Caufmann and Jeff Kaplan. According to Large, the partners designed and built the showroom and office space.
“Forest Construction helped us construct a wall near the counter area too,” he said.
Large says he went to art school and has had a passion for painting his entire life. He still enjoys painting murals outside of work.
“Lewis is an outdoor enthusiast in his free time,” he said. “He could hike up a mountain with no problem at all. He likes to go to Memorial Park and Katy Prairie on the weekends.
“Jeff loves traveling to new cities when he gets the chance. He recently traveled to New York City. Jeff also loves art and music.”
In the future, Large says a company goal is to open more locations in the Houston area.
“If things go right, we would also like to open stores in other parts of Texas. Right now, Austin is on our radar.”
