AUSTIN – Satterfield & Pontikes Construction recently completed an extensive $10 million renovation of Jesse H. Jones Hall on the campus of the University of Texas at Austin.

According to Sattterfield & Pontikes Construction Vice President John Marshall, Jesse H. Jones Hall is part of the university’s law school.   It received improvements to every level of the six-story building, with the most dramatic changes occurring to the Tarlton Law Library and faculty offices on upper floors, he said.

“The impetus for the project was the law school’s critical shortage of faculty office space,” Marshall said.  “The school also wanted to transform dark, cavernous Jesse H. Jones Hall into a more modern, light-filled space that would stimulate productivity as well as one that would help to attract students and faculty to the school.”

Marshall says a major feature of the five-phase construction manager at risk project involved installation of windows and skylights, which required cutting numerous openings through the thick concrete walls and roof.

“The demolition process resulted in the removal of more than 100 tons of concrete from Jesse H. Jones Hall,” Marshall said. “Architectural and design services were provided by Morris Architects.

“The design includes a large, new atrium that allows natural light into the space through skylights and additional windows. Located in a congested part of the campus, Jesse H. Jones Hall remained occupied and fully functioning during the renovation.

“In addition, Satterfield & Pontikes Construction and Morris Architects used Building Information Modeling (BIM) to design, document and schedule all elements of the 90,000-sf project. The project was completed in approximately 19 months.”

Established in 1989, Satterfield & Pontikes Construction is a general contractor and construction manager.  The company works on education, public, healthcare, federal, criminal justice, historic, retail and manufacturing and entertainment projects.  –ab
