Ready to paint
AUSTIN, TX – Owner Duke Williams and Robert Arana, president, D & W Painting Inc. met 30 years ago.
“At the time, Robert was a salesman for Monarch Paint Co., which is now PPG Pittsburgh Paints,” Williams said. “We found out right away we worked well together and that we make a great team.”
Williams says his father was a painter and he grew up in the industry. He earned his first paycheck by painting homes.
“My father taught me how to work,” Williams said. “That is all he did was work and he was a very good painter. The reason I chose to continue working in the painting business after school was there are always challenges to meet. I also enjoy working around a good group of people. Most of the folks who work at D & W Painting have worked here for a number of years. Jodi Pepper is the chief financial officer.
“My son, Luke, just graduated from high school. He is currently going through training to learn about estimating. He will work with us full time. Luke has also shown interest in flying helicopters and he wants to earn his license.”
Arana says the company has an annual Christmas party for the employees and they usually go out to eat at a restaurant.
Several employees at the company are Texas Longhorn football fans and they like to go to the home games when they can, he said.
“Duke is an avid deer hunter and does client hunts every year,” Arana said. “West Texas is his favorite place to go white tail deer hunting.”
Looking ahead, Williams says the next company plan is to open an office in Dallas, TX.
“Since we have worked in the Dallas market for so many years, it would be easier for us to get a location set up in the area,” Williams said. “In the future, we just want to continue what we are doing to ensure the highest level of customer satisfaction.”
D&W Painting is a full-service painting contractor that focuses on commercial, residential and multifamily projects. –ab
