SAN ANTONIO – Working for the conservation of the wild turkey and the preservation of the hunting tradition – that’s what the Hunting Heritage Banquet and Auction was all about for the National Wildlife Turkey Federation. This year’s event held Mar. 3 at the Alzafar Shrine marked the 14th annual celebration with 340 attendees.

The evening started with the presentation of colors by the U.S. Marine Corps Color Guard, 4th Reconnaissance Battalion followed by recognition of veterans and wounded warriors.

“It’s our chapter’s way of saying thank you for their service and to recognize them for what they have done and given,” stated Betty Warren, vice president of the Alamo Chapter regarding recognition of the recognized servicemen. “We had two companies that sponsored and paid for their [servicemen] attendance.”

The family-friendly event included a silent and live auction, which raised nearly $90,000 for wildlife conservation and hunting programs.  –dn
