The Great Outdoors
Good for the quail
SAN ANTONIO – March 10 at the Argyle began an era in a new outdoor association chapter for the San Antonio and South Texas area.
San Antonio Area Quail Forever Chapter held their first Annual Conservation Gala. The association focuses on habitat restoration, education, and conservation of South and West Texas Quail.
“The chapter was started by guys in the construction business who are quail hunters,” said Richard Kattmann, president of the chapter. “We were looking to join an organization with fellow quail and bird dog enthusiasts who had common interests.
“Bobwhite populations are declining in our area and we wanted to support and help restoration projects.”
The chapter deemed the evening a big success with 182 people attending. The chapter wanted to set itself apart from other organizations and do something a little different, so the gala was promoted as a couple’s event.
Along with great food, a silent and live auction was held to raise money.
“We were very pleased with the outcome and attendance for our first event,” stated Kattman. “We have quite a few people on our board including our chairman Balous Miller who helped us prove that we were a credible organization.
“The success of our chapter is going to be people embracing it in our community. The more people we can get involved the better.”
The chapter is new and, along with the quarterly habitat meetings and seminars, plans are in the works for a skeet shoot and snake clinic. –bd
